Good bookkeeping does not need to be complicated. A few simple habits keep your records clean and make tax time far easier.
1. Record transactions every week
Waiting until month-end means forgotten receipts and guesswork. A short weekly session keeps everything fresh.
2. Keep business and personal money apart
Use a separate bank account for the business. Mixed accounts make it hard to see your real profit and cause problems at tax time.
3. Store receipts digitally
Photograph or scan every receipt and invoice the day you receive it, and save it in a folder named by month.
4. Reconcile your bank account monthly
Matching your books to the bank statement catches errors, duplicate entries and unauthorised payments early.
5. Review a monthly report
Look at a simple profit and loss statement each month. If something looks unusual, ask why while it is still easy to fix.
If this feels like too much, that is exactly what our bookkeeping service is for. We record, reconcile and report, and we explain the numbers in plain language.
